| With changing lifestyles and the growing
sophistication of consumer needs, there is a demand for mobile phone applications
to support new services and to enhance their capability to support multimedia
content.
The SH-Mobile LAB is a research organization that was established in 2004 to be
the public face of the "SH-Mobile Consortium".
The "SH-Mobile Consortium" is a membership-based organization for creating
solutions based around the "SH Mobile" application processors for mobile
phones produced by Renesas Technology Corp. Formed in October 2003, the consortium
currently has 237 member companies.
Renesas Technology Corp. sponsors the consortium and also supports the SH-Mobile
LAB.
The SH-Mobile LAB is not only concerned with technical issues but also generates
ideas based on the way users actually use their mobile phones. The SH-Mobile LAB
investigates areas such as the characteristics of future mobile phone users and
forecasted trends in applications through the analysis of market research data
and work sessions with people who have a vision for the future of mobile communications.
These results are fed back to the SH-Mobile Consortium and utilized in joint
development work with our partners. These research activities and results are
also actively promoted in the media which helps encourage the wider adoption of
the SH-Mobile.
The SH-Mobile LAB web site was constructed to give both SH-Mobile Consortium
members and the general public a view into the activities of the laboratory which
include work sessions attended by core and guest members. We hope you will find
it of interest.
